4th anniversary extravaganza!

This website turned four years old today, and I must say, this past year has been the best one yet. I somehow got caught wearing panties on my head, touched a cloud, played basketball with flaming homosexuals, called my parents "extremely erotic people", threatened to end my blog, told my dad I loved him, crashed my office's email server, totally played up the whole "tortured writer" thing, totally played up the whole "tortured artist" thing, embarrassed myself at the golf course, moved, bought the world's most expensive necktie, spent a day as an extra on the new Batman movie, told my grandma I loved her, arm-wrestled a large man at a bar and won, insulted my boss's baby, totally played up the whole "tortured Cubs fan" thing, bought glasses, made fun of old people, gave arguably the greatest best man speech ever, quit my blog, made a comeback, murdered my boss's pet sea monkeys, went ice fishing, and got urinated on by my ceiling.

As always, I sincerely need to thank John at Solid Internet Systems for so patiently dealing with all of my frantic emails whenever the site goes down, and for being such a benevolent pushover by allowing ill-noise.com to be hosted for free for the past three years now. Assuming I'm on his $9.95/month plan, that's a value of about $360 that I've been off the hook for during these past three years. And if I continue blogging for the rest of my life as planned, for say, 50 more years, the total net amount will be over $6,000! What a sucker!!

On to Year Five!

Sometimes I can't tell if you just lead a very interesting life or if you're just such a good writer that it appears interesting. I think it's both. You have a great website and I really hope you mean it when you say it will be around for another 50 years.

I used to always think that blogs were lame and boring... until I started reading yours. This site is what blogging is supposed to be. I would start my own but I'm afraid it wouldn't be half as good as yours.

"And if I continue blogging for the rest of my life as planned, for say, 50 more years,...."

No more threatening to quit...now we have fighting words to throw back in your face later if you try:) Congrats Pete.

Wow, 4 years. For any writer it's hard to be productive for a time span like that, but you've definitely done it...without losing any quality at all. I would love to see what you've accumulated by the year 2058.

Those are all great stories, but do any of you know what is really scary? Pete has many, many more stories that he hasn't written about because he doesn't want to piss people off. (I know him in person.) Imagine how good this site would be if there was no self-censoring.

I liked the suggestion that someone had on one of your recent posts... You should have this blog submitted for a Bloggie nomination. Ill Noise is far better than most of the blogs listed there!

Ha I went through some of those old posts that you mentioned and remembered that arm wrestling story. In my opinion, your best story on this site.

Long time reader here. Congrats on ill-noise's 4th blog birthday.

I'm trying to think about my all time favorite ill-noise blog, and I have noticed that your blogs follow two general formats:

1. Gross-out potty humor and ridiculously embarrassing situation, usually with snazzy one-liner at the end. (ie Golden Shower)
2. Heartwarming story about a friend or family member.

But your best blogs are the ones where you combine both of those formulas, like the one you wrote about your father's hemorroids. I think that has to be my favorite thing you've ever written.

Anyway, keep up the good work. You make it easier for a lot of us to go through our stressful days.

The blogging craze was over a couple years ago, but it's nice to see that there are still some well-written blogs out there with great topical material. Keep up the good work.

Twenty bucks says that after reading this blog John cuts the plug on the site hosting and you end up having to pay every dime of it.

This past year set the standard for you as far as writing material. No way you will top it, but I hope you can at least come close this year.

Fifty years of Ill Noise... Now THAT will be something.

The implication that your blog has peaked is pure nonsense! You still need to get married and have kids. The stories that can be spun out of those experiences will make it impossible for your blog to lose its punch. Like a fine wine, it will only grow better (and funnier)! It's only up to you to continue to write.

Good job on reaching 4 years. I have never kept a blog for longer than 3 months. It takes commitment.
