Ay caramba

I've got this giant-sized Bart Simpson Pez dispenser sitting on my desk that talks whenever the head is tilted open. It says cute stuff like "Don't have a cow, man!"

The things actuaries find amusing, I tell you. When I first decorated my desk with this Pez dispenser last summer, it quickly became the official office toy. People would walk in with no purpose other than to get their daily Bart Simpson pick-me-up, and to steal a stick of Pez. I didn't even have to be around most times. I'd come back from lunch and always find a coworker alone in my darkened office, yanking Bart's head open, laughing hysterically at the sound of: "Eat my shorts!"

One time, they even made me open it during a conference call with a client. As an icebreaker.

Yeah, I don't know. I guess people got tired of their stress balls.

With all the Pez that my coworkers consumed from their fascination with Bart Simpson catch phrases, my Pez supply ran out within my first month here. Which, for the last year, has reduced my giant Bart Simpson Pez dispenser to nothing more than a glorified doll, sitting right next to my monitor completely silent and untouched.

Since then, my coworkers have quietly moved onto the unfinished fiendish-level Sudoku puzzle I have on my dry erase board to entertain them whenever they want to stretch their legs.

But this morning, in honor of The Simpsons Movie which comes out today, I decided to restock Bart full of Pez again. And for the first time in a year, I tilted his head back.

To which he replied, "Ay caramba!"

My coworkers? About four of them came running down the hall into my office, tripping over each other, giddy with excitement, like it was the coolest thing they've ever heard. LIKE CHILDREN AT THE SOUND OF AN ICE CREAM TRUCK.

Yeah, I don't know. The things actuaries find amusing, I tell you.

I'm not a fan of the Simpsons but my husband is. So we're seeing it tonight! Hopefully it's as good as the reviews say.

The movie didn't have nearly any of the referential humor that makes me love the show so much. Eh. It was okay for a movie, but I expected more.
