Rock

I clearly don't know anything about diamonds or engagement rings or any of that sort of stuff, because earlier tonight I was checking out Julie's engagement ring in her MySpace photos, and my reaction was just, "Meh."

That's not to say that it's not a beautiful ring -- I mean, she got a couple "wow, what a rock!" comments on that photo so I'm sure that it's absolutely exquisite -- but I just really have no idea. It's like newborn babies; I honestly never know quite what to think of them because they're just not what you expect when you picture it in your head. Someone might say, "But Pete, how can you not find this baby cute?" and I'll respond, "WHICH ONE?! THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE TO ME!"

That's how I feel about diamond rings. I've never heard a reaction other than "Wow! What a beautiful ring!" so I have no concept of what an impressive ring should look like, much less an ugly one. Is it all just about the size of the diamond, is that what it is? What would the Ford Escort of diamond rings be?

I just, don't know.

Did you see the rings Missy's dad had her put up on ebay? Those are ugly rings.

My ring ROCKS. THAT is what a beautiful ring is supposed to look like. And it came with love from the man I'm going to marry. He did a great job...I'm very proud of him. And of course...its on MY finger which makes it even MORE gorgeous;)

You have alot to learn about women... you never down play a womens wedding ring. I thought you would know that.

You dont ask ther weight, age or down play the ring they are going to wear the rest of her life.

Its a 6 grand ct ring.. ITS AMAZING

You don't ask women about their weight, age, or downplay the engagement ring? Who made up these rules? And what is that supposed to say about women!

I'm 115 lbs and 22 years old. I do expect a 'yeowzah' worthy ring though =D

That is just what I was taught. I guess that you are not like most women lynn and that is great. I guess I would ask you if you are married or engaged?

The ring is the symbol of there love and comment to each other. Everyone will say that the ring I got is the best. There is no one thing that makes an engagement ring special. What makes it the right ring is who gave it to them and the comment that comes behind it.

Its something that the women is going to wear for the rest of there life. Like the ring I gave Julie I think is the most amazing thing in the world. Cause it is the symbol of my love and the symbol that now I but her life in front of mine. So yes Pete its not the “Rock” that makes it a great ring. It’s the person who gave it to her.

So lynn I respect what you said. I really do. I just learned that you treat a lady with respect and don’t ask her certain things. So thanks for your comment. I hope you have a great holiday

All rings ARE alike Petey M.....it's the person that gives them to you that makes it special. It's all about the person, not the size (or the price). Course every girl wants to show off her prize and be complimented on it. So, whether you think it's pretty or not, compliment her dammit!!!:-)Just like you did with my AWESOME hair!!!

Since when did this become a discussion on how to treat a woman? I think the original question was about how to distinguish a pretty ring from a not-so-pretty one. But if you are a single person this topic won't be of interest to you, so most guys don't know anything about diamonds and rings until they're at the stage of life where its time to buy one for the sig other. Pete, don't listen to that 'they're all beautiful' stuff, that's all just politically correct crap. There really is an art and science to what makes a ring beautiful, but to sum it all up it all comes down to the 4 C's...

Carat weight,
Clarity,
Color,
and Cut.
