That sperm song

I need good music to study to, and I’m afraid to say that I’ve played everything by the Dust Brothers or off Radiohead’s Kid A album to exhaustion, so what I’m looking for is stimulating classical music to help grow synapses and make my neurons fire faster.

So, give me downloading suggestions, people. Rachmaninoff works for me, if that gives you an idea of what I’m looking for.

Actually, what I am really really desperately in search of is that one classical song that is played primarily by a cello and is usually the background music for all middle school health videos involving a sperm fertilizing an egg. Or, sometimes it’s used for scenes of galaxies swirling in outer space, or for scenes of early microbial life forming on earth — protozoa, and shit like that.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS SONG IS CALLED? THE SO-CALLED “SPERM SONG”???

I don't know of any sperm songs but when I want to study for long periods of time I like to put in film scores.

Silent Woods Op.68 No.5
Composed by Antonin Dvorak

This is a great sperm song. I can imagine the little soldier swimming towards the egg, beating his head during the climax and gaining entry during the final resolution of the piece. This piece can be found on the album 'Cello for Relaxation' which may have more excellent galaxy swirling pieces.

Also, if you love plucking (and who doesn't?!) check out Strauss' Pizzicato Polka, the entire song is made up of violins and cellos plucking, I love the plucking.

Thanks, Tim, for the great suggestions. My Winamp playlist is now a better place because of you.

And bravo, Wavo. I love plucking in general, and that Pizzicato Polka song sounds great at first listen. I'm having trouble getting my hands on Silent Woods Op.68 No.5, but as soon as I get it, I'll let you know if that indeed is the sperm song I'm thinking of.

aside from samuel barber, that is a pretty good list to start I would say. esp. the tchaikovsky.

Being the advocate of the Romantic Period (and German artistry) that I am, you need some Wagner on there:
Tannhauser
Lohengrin
Tristan und Isolde
Die Walkure
Gotterdammerung

More Tchaikovsky:
Slavonic March
The Tempest

Mozart (had to add these):
concerto no. 17 (K453)
concerto no 18. (K456)
"Ah, vous dirais-je, maman"

Another place to look for that spermy music is umm, that movie, What the Bleep Do We Know?! They have dream sequences in that movie that has that goofy music as background.
