Kobe
Tonight I came home and found three messages people left me on AIM, all of them curiously saying nothing about the Seahawks and the Steelers, but instead vaguely mentioning Kobe Bryant and asking where the hell I was, and demanding that I check the Lakers/Raptors box score ASAP. So I pulled up nba.com and looked at the box score.
What I saw hurt me.
Michael Jordan’s career high for points in a game, for those of you too stupid to know, is 69. For those of you too dumb to realize, Michael Jordan is my lifelong hero. My inspiration. His influence on me is the reason I stick my tongue out in order to concentrate during exams. He’s the reason why my cereal of choice continues to be Wheaties, no matter how good that box of Cookie Crisp looks in the grocery store aisle.
He’s also the reason why, for several years, the pin number on my ATM card was 2323.
Michael’s scoring high was 69. Kobe, the acquitted rapist with a serious Jordan complex, HE SCORED 81 TONIGHT.
69. 81. Damn it!
This reminds me of how I first felt when — after boasting about the Sears Tower for years — some dudes from freakin’ Kuala Lumpur suddenly built the Petronas Twin Towers. And motherfuckin’ fuck, that still stings me to this day.

kobe is a ballhog...even if he ever scores 100 in a game i wouldn't be that impressed.
Nic, that statement is beyond laughable (not the ballhog part).
Pete, MJ will always be the greatest; let Kobe have his moment. MJ won Defensive Player of the Year the same year he averaged 35 ppg.
Let's also state the fact that the season Jordan averaged 35 ppg, he also averaged 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Compare this to Kobe's meager 5 and 4.
And in Jordan's highest scoring season, he averaged 37.1 ppg. Let's see Kobe top that. Ha!
not only that, but Jordan played on teams with other people that could shoot the ball as well, making him a team player (moreso) that scored all the time, every season...
Pete, even people that arent from Chicago (but from bball country a bit south ;)) and dont automatically agree that Jordan is the greatest ever, will agree with you that Kobe will never be MJ
I think you need to admit that when Kobe's on, not even Jordan is as good as him at scoring. I'm saying this as a Kobe-hater too. I'm not saying that Kobe is better, MJ is by far more well-rounded.. but if you want to compare both of them, you will have to accept that Kobe has more offensive tools than MJ.
MJ was consistently amazing but he couldn't do what Kobe is capable of doing when he's at his best.
Jordan is more well rounded then Kobe, and I still think is a better scorer. Jordan conserved what he needed until it mattered. You still have to have a little respect for the 81...but the game was out of hand, he was just in there pumping in points at the end.
Jordan is a better scorer, but speaking of 'until it mattered', maybe we shouldnt forget the greatest clutch shooter of all time, perhaps the best just straight out shooter in the modern NBA?
Stewie, I'm trying to think of who you're referring to if it's not Jordan, and since you're an Indiana boy it leads me to think you're talking about the ol' "Hick from French Lick", Larry Bird?
Oh wait, duh, you're talking about Reggie Miller. I was thinking too hard on that one.
ding! yes, uncle reg is in fact the greatest clutch shooter of all time. i remember a certain playoff game where he pushed an aging MJ on an inbounds pass and hit a 3 right in his face. coming down the court as time expired, his airness attempted to win the game with a 3 of his own and...clang! pacers win!
on a side note, i think bird is the last white all-around player ever to play as one of the best in the league, its sad.
Stew, how'd that series end up? Did the greatest clutch shooter ever end up leading his team to the Finals? Also, what do you think of the Adam Morrison comparison?
Adam Morrison is destined to be the next Keith Van Horn.
Could the greatest clutch shooter just run down the lane and automatically get fouls called as if there were some sort of NBA script, as if the league had decided who was going to win? Frank knows what Im talking about!
About morrison: "Let's remember who Larry Bird was at Indiana State. He averaged 30.3 points for his career with the Sycamores. Only 14 players have done better. He averaged 13.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He scored 2,850 career points. That's the fourth-best three-season total in Division I history, behind Pete Maravich, Oscar Robertson and Elvin Hayes. Bird's last team went undefeated through 33 games before losing to Michigan State in the 1979 NCAA championship game."
Gonzaga is a real team with real money, ISU is not anything, so its amazing that Bird was able to do all that there.
Im still bitter over the whole utah thing too, I know what your talking about. Jordan denied so many incredible players their rings, Ewing, Barkley, Miller, stockton/malone, etc.
Lets not forget about stocktons all around hotness too. Granted he couldnt grab boards and block shots, but he did all he could with that 6 foot body.
My stupid friend thinks Kobe is better than MJ, compare their career stats, rings, and clutch factors...Jordans better in everything.
