Serendipity
And I'm not talking about that stupid John Cusack movie. I'm talking about the real thing. When you start to worry about your upcoming annual payment to your webhost called Dreamhost because you're broke and then your old pal John (Diamond, not Cusack) from freshman year comes out of NOWHERE to offer you free hosting at his fledgling webhosting company called Solid Internet Systems, well, that's serendipity.
By the way, if any of you guys out there are looking for top-notch, reliable webhosting, look no further than Solid Internet Systems. Those fools at Dreamhost may have their fancy schmancy web panels and limo drivers and streets of gold, but what they don't have is John Diamond. John, he's so committed that he'll spend his lunch breaks tinkering with things called suexec or cgiwrap, while the rest of the world is in the men's room jerking off or in their cars taking a nap.
So if you want to be as cool as me, you'll get your webhosting at Solidnetsys. The only difference is YOU WILL PAY HIM.
I'll tell you more about serendipity. The same way Sir Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin when a piece of mold fell in a culture dish, the same way Columbus discovered the Americas by trying an alternate route to India, I stumbled upon my new and improved website look. One minute I'm experimenting with Shaun Inman and Mike Davidson's flash replacement technique, the next minute I somehow find that Georgia looks pretty sweet at a font size of 30 px. I'm still not sure how it happened, but for all the subtle changes I made, I think it looks great.
What a start to a great day -- and it's all because of serendipity (which by the way is not the word of the day). New webhosting. New website look. New outlook on life. New me. Now all I need is to bump into Kate Beckinsale.
