San Diego means "A whale's vagina"
Okay, so I’m as big a Will Ferrell fan as anyone else. I loved Elf and found him equally hilarious in Old School. And let’s not forget his cameo in Starsky and Hutch, which got me laughing and farting for a good eight minutes.
But Anchorman, it sucked. It was one of those movies where all the funny stuff was packed into the trailer. And what a disappointment too, because the trailers and advertising behind it had what promised to be a friggin’ funny ass movie.
What we got instead was something lazily put together, with gags that lacked impact. I think everyone in the theater wanted sincerely to like the movie. I mean, Will Ferrell is a guy you naturally want to root for as a comedic actor — he’s new and fresh and full of talent. But I’m sensing that most of the laughs I heard were forced.
Yeah, so I’m notorious for being hard on comedies (if I’m paying eight or nine bucks to laugh, then I had BETTER laugh, damnit), but WHAT A DISAPPOINT THIS MOVIE WAS. The only stuff that really tickled me was the street alley brawl with all those newscasting teams, with cameos by Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, and of all people, Tim Robbins.
Other than that, the movie went nowhere, and I found myself laughing out loud once every fifteen minutes, instead of every four minutes (my standard for comedies).
