It's Adrien Brody, The Village Idiot (Kind Of)
Dave thought the creatures in the woods would be Bigfoot. Derek thought it would be aliens. Frank thought: troll-like monsters. I forgot what Jeff thought. And Lynn was undecided. Me, I was thinking the creatures would turn out to be indignant Native Americans, or Black militant slaves.
Turns out, all of us were wrong. It turns out that the creatures of in the woods in M. Night Shyamalan’s new summer flick, The Village, were nothing more than a pack of coyotes. Just kidding, but I won’t give away the ending.
That brings up my next point, however. Shyamalan is proving to be a one-trick pony, relying on surprise endings to sell is movies. This is fine if we are surprised, but audiences are keying in on his gimmicks. With such high expectations of earth-shattering surprise endings, it is apparent that Shyamalan will never reproduce the effect of The Sixth Sense. At this point in his career, I think he should be above schticks and gimmicks. The Village, although engrossing at many points, disappointed because the surprise ending just didn’t really surprise. It seemed more like an episode of The Twilight Zone — with better special effects and such.
